Glossary of Science Fiction Story Terms

This Glossary of Science Fiction Story Terms helped me keep everybody straight in my mind as I wrote. It can also help you if you forget a character or lose track of what is happening in my story. I hope it helps you as much as it did me.

Amulet – A Plain and simple, pewter gray, round amulet with elliptical rays around the border that were recessed behind its round face. In the center is a polished stone that looked similar to hematite, but it was darker, like onyx. The back of the amulet was smooth and polished and marked with three glyphs that mean [Life, Knowledge, Power] in the language of the Mirrioda.

Aquila – It was an Earth-like planet a few hundred miles in diameter smaller than Venus, with grasslands, swamps, deserts, forests, and frozen poles.

David Riley – A male Caucasian, 5’10” tall with brown hair cut military style, an athletic build, and blue-gray eyes. He is 32 years old and honorably served our great nation for 12 years in the US Navy. He eventually became the third master of the universe.

Dexornon – A polymer strand invented by the Mirrioda that possessed 100 times the tensile strength of any other polymer known to man.

Dia Draco – She is the fearsome Commander of the Zeelok fleet. She is a 6 foot tall brunet with a light brown Hispanic or Mediterranean complexion and a firm, exceptionally muscular body. Other than her extraordinary muscularity, she appeared human in every respect.

Dominus – Is the title of the Matriarchal Monarch of the Zeelok Ruling Council.

Drazel – A Sapient and formidable species conquered by Sway and his confederates. They are bipedal furry critters with a face reminiscent of a sloth. They are gentle, very strong creatures, approximately three times stronger than the average human male.

Dux – Sapient species of the planet Duxducis. Dux is pronounced just like the web-footed feathered critters of Earth (ducks). They are an advanced species and the best navigators in the known galaxy. Most of the known celestial systems were first charted and explored by the Dux. They are also a docile species and were used by the Zet as navigators. They are pug-faced with rounded ears that droop at the tips and they are covered with a downy-like fur. They are bipedal and slender and could easily be classified as mammals. They have dexterous six-fingered hands with fingernails much like ours. They average about 5 feet in height.

Emperor Sonkei – He is the ruler of the planet Tetra. He is a little chunky, compared to most of his subjects, but is not grossly obese. He’s a little pompous, but kind and loves his people.

Humans – Sapient life forms of Earth with a propensity toward violence, they have a fragmented global civilization and possess rudimentary space flight capabilities. They are bipedal mammals with sparse fur, two arms and dexterous grasping five-fingered hands.

Jamook – He is a member of the species Joonum of the planet Joon and the second master of the universe.

Jena Bronick – She is a Zeelok long-range communication technician from the planet Mok, the homeworld of the Zeelok. She is strikingly beautiful with tan skin and dark brown, almost black, wavy hair and brown eyes. Her build is slighter than most Zeelok, but she is strong, supple and curvaceous.

Jiyu – The global holiday and celebration that annually marks the day King David liberated the planets and people from the tyrannical Zet Empire and established the Terreus Empire, bringing freedom to our new Empire.

Joonum – Sapient life forms of the planet Joon, who are simple people of an agrarian society that do not know violence, anger or hatred. They are short and stocky with massive muscularity and have a yellow/orange tint to their skin. Their brow ridge is thick like that of a Homo erectus or Neanderthal, and their heads appear small for their bodies. They are considerably shorter than humans. The males are larger than the females and stand about 4’6” tall. They have no flight capabilities of any kind, as well as having no mechanization and little industrialization.

Junock – Sapient species of a cluster of planets known as Junoval (the heart of the Junock Empire). They are the product of a grand mistake. They are large and powerfully built, averaging 6 feet tall and have olive-green skin and white hair, with spade-shaped teeth, sky blue eyes and bulbous noses. The species that spawned them genetically altered several thousand members of their own species to be more muscular, intelligent and aggressive. The altered seed of their species that they spread on the cluster of habitable planets near their homeworld quickly blossomed into an Empire that destroyed their progenitors mercilessly.

Junock Empire – The Empire founded by the Junock after they usurped power from their progenitors. They eventually, through malevolence and violence, spread their empire across the Milky Way usurping about 55 percent of the Milky Way.

Keesha Campbell – An African American female 5’2” with dark brown straight hair, a firm athletic body, and hazel green eyes. She starts out as David Riley’s 20-year-old cook and housekeeper, who eventually becomes his wife and the Queen of the Terreus Empire.

Kevlynon – A polymer invented by the Kodor that can withstand extreme heat without melting, deteriorating or conducting heat.

Kindra Mattraya – She rose from a slave to Fleet Commander, to Emissary and finally to the ruling council of the planet Tetra. She was the friend and at one time personal assistant of King David.

King Ponzac XII – He was the Ruler of the Zet Empire after Sway died. He was an imposing reptilian figure and ruled his empire from his enormous command ship.

Kodor – A Sapient species conquered by Sway that developed a polymer that could withstand extreme heat and remain flexible. The Kodor were a race that was just beginning their first exploration of space. They had a slight build and short stature averaging about 4 feet tall with dexterous grasping five-fingered hands.

Lutians – Sapient species of the planet Lutumus, who are kind and gentle creatures that average about my height, but are very thin with leathery wrinkled skin that is very light, like that of a pale Caucasian. They have no hair or other keratinous tissues (nails or claws) and are primarily vegetarians that supplement their diet with small amounts of fish and crustaceans. They are used by the Zet as servants due to their passive docile nature. They have no space flight capabilities but had long ago mastered aerial flight.

Maya – An Earth-like planet about the same size as Mars and is mostly ocean that covers 90% of the planet’s surface. Maya is hot and humid with vast aquatic kelp-like forests on vast tidal plains, rainforests, and frequent rain during the rainy season that lasts 8 of its 13 lunar months.

Mirrioda – Sapient life form of the planet Mirron, relatively docile, but capable of violence, possessing advanced space flight capabilities, and a united global civilization. They are bipedal without fur or scales, four arms and dexterous grasping four-fingered hands. They are thin and taller than the average human. They have blue/gray skin, an elongated cranium with a dorsal ridge and a childlike face. They were not very strong, but to most sapient life forms, they looked imposing.

Mrs. Campbell – Keesha’s mother, the widow of a Southern Baptist Preacher.

Pegasus – An Interstellar vessel designed and created by David Riley. It looked reminiscent of a delta wing fighter jet but was about half the length of a US Navy Destroyer. It was indestructible and eggshell white in color with the mythical creature Pegasus painted on each side of it near the nose of the ship.

Sway – A member of the Mirrioda species of the planet Mirron, and the first master of the universe.

Terra – A beautiful, pristine, uninhabited planet at the edge of King David’s territory.

Terreus Empire – The Empire founded by King David. It initially consisted of 22 worlds that controlled about 33 percent of the Milky Way, but then gradually encompassed the entire Milky Way galaxy.

Tetrite – Sapient species of the planet Tetra, with a propensity toward violence equal to humans, but they have a united global civilization with only a handful of small dissident groups. They are bipedal humanoids that look exactly like fair-skinned oriental humans. They are extremely skilled in learning, understanding and speaking languages, making them exquisitely adapt as communications experts and diplomats.

Trux – Sapient species of Aethiops that possess five-fingered dexterous grasping hands and are almost identical to the native African Maasi of Earth in skin tone and the tone is almost universal, dark brown skin, but they have the facial features and straight dark hair of the American Plains Indians. The men and women both averaged about 7 feet tall. They have shorter torsos and longer legs than humans. This is an adaptive feature of their species due to their environment and diet.

Zeelok – Sapient species of the planet Mok. They are a matriarchal society of physically powerful women. They have a self-ruling global Democratic Republic that only answers to the Junock. The Zeelok are fierce warriors and the territorial guardians and expanders of the Junock Empire. They appear human in every way with an ethnically Hispanic or Mediterranean appearance.

Zet – Sapient species and inheritors of the Zet Empire. They are imposing critters, bipedal with two arms, dexterous four-fingered hands and they stand an average of 8 feet tall. They are stocky and muscular with yellow/green smooth reptilian skin. They have crocodile-like teeth in an elongated snout, and above the snout, they have two large black, glassy, lifeless-looking eyes.

Zet Empire – The Empire that Sway of the Mirrioda created as a forced dictatorship upon the worlds he encountered. After Sway abandoned his Rule, the Zet were the most powerful species and therefore usurped authority proclaiming the name of their empire as the Zet Empire.
