Green Coffee – Not Just for Weight Loss

Many people use green coffee supplements like Green Coffee as a potent metabolism booster.  According to Chowen (2014) it also, “suppressed the weight gain and fat accumulation induced by a high-fat diet”.  Therefore, it also decreased the hepatic expression of the genes for proteins that play key roles in hepatic steatosis or the excessive accumulation of triglycerides and other fats in liver tissue, also known as, fatty liver.  Therefore it also supports the liver and decreases fatty liver disease.

Coffee

As we all know the caffeine in all types of coffee provides an energy boost, including Green Coffee.  This caffeine boost should be administered in moderation.  Because caffeine toxicity has killed many people.  Fortunately, it takes a substantial dose of caffeine to kill an adult – less to kill a child.  The recommended dose for an adult should not exceed 250-500 mg per day.  Although, this would depend on your age weight and tolerance for caffeine.  There is a recorded death from caffeine toxicity concerning a young man that took 25, 200mg NoDoz©.  And there are many more examples too, especially in children and young adults.  Incidentally, the average cup of coffee has about 95 mg of caffeine.

If you are careful and don’t overdose, caffeine from coffee and other sources can give you that added boost of energy you need.  So what are some of the other sources of caffeine?  Caffeine is found in tea, soda, Red Bull©, chocolate, and Excedrin©, among others.

Rich in Antioxidants

Green coffee is also a rich source of antioxidants.  According to Yashin, et al. (2013), green coffee beans contain large amounts of polyphenolic antioxidants, such as chlorogenic, caffeic, ferulic, and n-coumarinic acids, which have anti-inflammatory, analgesic, antibiotic and antiviral action.  This could help with arthritis symptoms, immune response and provide anti-carcinogenic (anti-cancer) support.

So what’s the difference between Green Coffee and other coffee sources?  The antioxidant yield of green coffee is 366-643 with higher doses noted in Robusta beans vs Arabica beans.  Roasted coffee has substantially less antioxidant with a light roast yielding 284-294, again with the Robusta beans having a greater amount of antioxidants.  After that, the yield of antioxidants decreases as you roast the beans from light to medium and finally to dark roasted.
