Glossary of General Terms

This Glossary of General Terms will help those that don’t have a science background. I included it to make sure my readers knew what I was talking about.

Abortion – the intentional termination of a pregnancy through surgical procedure or medications. 

Adultery – the sinful act of having intercourse with someone who is not your spouse.

Anthropologist – a student of the study of the origin, and physical, cultural, and social development of humans.

Astronomer – a student of the system of knowledge and beliefs concerning celestial phenomena, and their composition, dimensions, positions, distribution, motion, and beginning.

Atheist – a person that does not believe in the existence of any deity.

Back-slidden Christian – a Christian that knows and understands the precepts and wisdom within the Bible and understands what is required of a Christian but often or usually acts and reacts as if they are not a Christian.

Biogenesis – Life from life or living organisms reproducing themselves.

Bob – The fictitious writer that wrote the science fiction book, “King David.

Born Again – is the condition of being dead to your old sinful life and reborn into a life dedicated to Christ-like behavior, to the best of our human abilities, redeemed through the substitutionary and willing sacrifice of our Lord Jesus, forgiven and granted eternal life.

Carbon 14 – a radioactive carbon isotope with an atomic mass of 14 and a half-life 5,730 years that exists in only trace amounts on Earth.  Carbon 12 makes up about 99% of the carbon on Earth.

Christ – Greek word meaning Messiah.

Christian – A person that has dedicated his or her life to Jesus Christ, accepting that He is the Son of God and that he died for our sins and then rose again, and that his willing sacrifice was completed so that we can have a personal relationship with Him, have eternal life and share the Gospel with others.

Christian Worldview – a faith-based philosophy concerning how Christians perceive the world around them.  There are several Christian worldviews, from conservative to liberal, from evolution-based to intelligent design-based, among others.

Chronogenealogies – chrono (time), genealogies (the study of progenitors and their descendants), or the study of time-based on accurately documented genealogies.

Compromised Christian – is a Christian that fails to follow the clear teachings of the Bible and attempts to use his or her own acquired knowledge to reinterpret the Bible so that the Bible reconciles with the current social, scientific and philosophical ideas of our society.

Cosmologist – a student of the physical dealing with the general structure of the universe, its parts, elements, laws, and especially with its origins.

Created Kind – a classification of organisms in accordance with the written Word of God, based on physical compatibility and original intelligent design.  Example – the “bear kind” polar bears, grizzly bears, panda bears, black bears, sun bears, etc.  All are bears and they have always been bears starting with the first two progenitor bears that walked off of Noah’s Ark and then diversifying through rapid speciation as they adapted to their new environments.

Ecosystem – a complex biological community of interacting relationships among living organisms and their physical environment.

Entropy – a gradual transition from usable matter/energy to unusable matter/energy within our universe, as our universe, fades into disorder.

Erosion – the process of destruction through eroding or being eroded by wind, water, rain, glaciation, or other atmospheric and terrestrial means.

Evolution – the fallacious theory that gradual processes change simple organisms into different or more complex organisms.

Evolutionary worldview – a faith-based philosophy concerning how people who are indoctrinated in evolutionary theory perceive the world around them.

Evolutionist – a person that believes that gradual processes change simple organisms into different or more complex organisms via evolutionary processes.

Fallacious – an unsound argument that tends to be misleading or deceptive.

Firmament – the expanse of the heavens or the sky above the Earth.

Fornicator – a person that engages in any type of sexual act with another person outside of marriage.

Gamete – a reproductive cell having half the number of chromosomes needed for that specie, capable of fusing with a gamete (egg, sperm) of the opposite sex to create a living organism of that species or a hybrid with an organism within their own created kind.

Genome – a complete set of the genetic material of an organism, imparting all the genetic characteristics of the original type of organism.

God – (Elohim) The one true God, the creator, master and sustainer of everything, the God of Israel, the Torah, the Bible and of Christianity.

Grace – the unmerited divine forgiveness of all past, present, and future sins, without exception.

Heaven – the throne of God and dwelling place of his Angles, as well as, the dwelling place of all that have faithfully served God and were granted His divine grace.

Hell – the domain of the fallen Angel Lucifer (the devil) and the Angels (demons) that followed his rebellion against God, as well as, all the people that have rejected God.

Inerrant – without the possibility of doctrinal error.

Infallible – without the possibility of being wrong or making mistakes.

Inspired – “God-breathed” or information transferred from the mind of God to the minds of divinely selected people.

Jesus – the Son of God, the savior, and redeemer of all those that believe in him, God with us in human form.  My Lord and Savior.

Jim – He was introduced as Bob’s friend from high school, who became a Christian and an 11th-grade biology teacher.

Laws of Thermodynamics – Paraphrased, the First Law states that matter/energy cannot be created or destroyed (also known as the Law of Conservation of Energy).  The Second Law states that matter/energy is in a constant state of change from usable matter/energy to unusable matter/energy (also known as the Law of Entropy).  The Third Law states that the entropy of a substance approaches zero as its temperature approaches absolute zero, at which time all of its matter/energy is unusable (or having Zero Entropy).

Linnaean system – an organism classification system based on the physical characteristics of the organism, created by the Christian, Carl Linnaeus and published in 1735, in order to classify God’s amazing creations.

Paleozoic Era – the earliest of the so-called geologic era that is purported to have been the era that multi-celled life started and purportedly spanned from about 540 to 250 million years ago.

Political correctness – conforming to a belief that avoidance of forms of expression or action that may exclude, or insult certain groups of people should be eliminated at all costs.

Prophecy – an inspired prediction of what will happen in the future.

Sapient – Wise, intelligent, sensible, or of the species Homo sapiens.

Saviour – Jesus (Yeshua), the Son of God.

Species – the fundamental category of taxonomic classification consisting of organisms capable of interbreeding.

Speciation – the formation of new and distinct species via adaptation to new environments.

Stillborn – the expulsion of a fetus that died in the womb because of genetic abnormalities, implantation errors, trauma or other causes.

Theoretical physicists – is a branch of physics, which employs mathematical models to develop theories of physics, attempting to explain various aspects of the and how it functions.

Tribulation – a period of great trouble or suffering described in the Book of Revelations and in various other prophetic books of the Bible, which will last for 7 years.

Uniformitarianism – the geological doctrine that purportedly affirms that the changes in the Earth’s crust, during geological history, have resulted from the action of continuous and uniform processes from the beginning to the present over vast periods of time.

Volcanism – the various phenomena associated with volcanic activity.

Worldview – a personal philosophy concerning how you perceive the world around you.  Worldviews are very personal. But also can be arranged into several categories, like conservative, liberal, Christian, Islamic, Buddhist, Progressive, etc. and can vary throughout a person’s life.

Zygote – a complete viable cell resulting from the fusion of two gametes from the same species or created kind, which will mature into a viable offspring, if unimpeded.
